Our Doctors

The doctors are available during surgery hours. They are able to offer a wide range of services including:

  • Routine surgeries.
  • Minor surgical procedures – removal of lumps and skin lesions.
  • Cryotherapy – freezing warts etc.
  • Joint injections.
  • Private medical examinations – HGV, taxi and insurance medicals etc. These services are not covered by the NHS and a fee is payable.

These services are by appointment only.

The doctors at the practice will no longer be able to complete passport applications on behalf of patients. Please do not bring these applications for completion.

Our Nurses

The practice nurses are available in the treatment room during surgery hours. They are able to offer a wide range of services including:

  • Blood tests.
  • ECGs.
  • Advice on smoking, obesity and healthy living. If you have been advised by the surgery to submit a smoking review on a regular basis, please use our Smoking Review Form.
  • Contraceptive services.
  • Tetanus and childhood immunisations.
  • Travel advice and immunisations.
  • Dressings, suture removal.
  • Dealing with minor injuries.

These services are by appointment only.

Antenatal And Postnatal Care

For the care of pregnant and nursing mothers, held in hours convenient to both parties. The community midwife holds clinics on Fridays by appointment at the practice. Antenatal care will be shared by her and the doctor.

Asthma Clinics

If you have been advised by the surgery to submit an annual review of your asthma symptoms, please complete an Asthma Review Form.

The asthma clinics are run at the surgery by our practice nurse. The asthma clinic is by appointment only.

The aim is to provide continued monitoring and care of asthma patients, and help them to improve self management. Appointments are offered to all our patients with asthma to attend for annual review with the practice nurse.

Children with asthma are reviewed on a more regular basis depending on the severity of their asthma.

Where appropriate, respiratory tests are performed to confirm the diagnosis and continually monitor progress using computerised vitalographic equipment. In order to perform accurate breathing tests, will you please avoid the following:

  • Smoking within 24 hours of the test.
  • Alcohol within 4 hours of the test.
  • Eating a substantial meal within 2 hours of the test.
  • Any vigorous exercise within 30 minutes of the test.
  • Wearing any restrictive clothing.

Patients can have their peak flow and inhaler techniques reviewed and get up to date information about new medications.

Patients are advised to bring all their medicines/inhalers and anything else that they use with them to their appointment.

Blood Pressure Clinics

If you have been advised by the surgery to submit an annual review of your blood pressure symptoms, please complete a Blood Pressure Review Form.

Patients are advised to have their blood pressure checked every 3-5 years if they are under 60 years old and annually thereafter.

If your GP has prescribed medication to control your blood pressure you will be advised to attend for more frequent monitoring.

Routine blood pressure checks are carried out by our healthcare assistant. Reviews are by appointment only.

Cervical Smears

Appointments for cervical smears are available with the practice nurse.

Cervical smears are done every 5 years for patients between the ages of 25-64 years. You will receive an invite from Cervical Screening Wales. If you feel your appointment is overdue, please contact the practice.

Child Health Surveillance

Child health surveillance clinics are run on Wednesdays from 09:00-14:30 by appointment at the practice for all children in the practice in conjunction with the doctor, health visitor and practice nurse.

It is important that your child is immunised against common childhood illnesses. Advice is available on all matters affecting your child’s health.

This clinic is for:

  • Developmental checks
  • Immunisations
  • Weight checks

Please do not bring unwell children/babies to the clinic as it may increase the risk of the spread of infection to very young babies who are otherwise healthy. If you wish to have your child seen with regards to recent illness then please make an appointment to see the GP in the usual manner.

Child Development Clinic

Child development checks are carried out as and when necessary by the doctor and health visitor.

Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease Clinic

If you have been advised by the surgery to submit an annual review of your COPD symptoms, please complete a COPD Assessment Form.

The Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) Clinics are run at the surgery by our practice nurse. The COPD Clinic is by appointment only.

We aim to provide continued monitoring and care of COPD patients, and help them to improve self management.

Appointments are offered to all patients with COPD to attend for annual review with the practice nurse.

Contraceptive Services

If you have been advised by the surgery to complete a review of your contraception, you will need to complete our Contraception Review Form.

The practice provides a range of contraceptive services:

  • Confidential advice about contraception.
  • The combined oral contraceptive pill.
  • The progestogen-only pill.
  • Progestogen contraceptive injections.
  • Insertion or removal of the contraceptive implant.

Emergency Contraception

If you have had unprotected sexual intercourse or if your contraceptive method has failed and require emergency contraception, it is essential that you contact either your GP practice, pharmacy or a family planning clinic as soon as possible.

Emergency contraception (the ‘morning after pill’) is only effective if taken within 72 hours after intercourse, the earlier the medication is taken, the more effective it is likely to be.

Coronary Heart Disease And Stroke/TIA Clinics

Coronary Heart Disease (CHD) and Stroke/TIA clinic is by appointment only.

An annual review will be offered to all patients who have ever experienced chest pains, who have angina or who have had a heart attack, and/or had a stroke or mini-stroke (TIA).

The aim is to review the condition, optimise the treatment, and lower risk factors in order to prevent further illness.

A minimum of a week before your appointment you will also need to have a blood test taken. We will provide you with the blood form.

You will also be required to bring a urine sample with you to your appointment at the CHD Clinic.

Diabetes Clinic

Diabetic clinic is available every Monday & Tuesday by appointment only.

The aim of the clinic is to achieve good control of diabetes and prevent complications by providing regular check up’s and education. There is also a follow up clinic for patients who need to be seen more frequently. When attending for a diabetes check, patients are requested to bring all medicines and records of finger prick and/or urine testing with them.

A minimum of a week before your appointment you will also need to have a blood test taken. We will provide you with the blood form.

You will also be required to bring a urine sample with you on your appointment at the diabetes clinic.

Travel Advice And Immunisations

Our nurses can provide comprehensive travel health advice and arrange for appropriate immunisations.

Please arrange an appointment for a travel consultation at least 6-8 weeks before departure if possible.

Vaccines need time to take effect and some may require a course over several weeks.

Minor Surgery And Cryotherapy

Minor surgery is performed at the surgery by Dr Ryell and Dr Frost. This will need to be discussed with the doctor beforehand.

If it is deemed necessary, then the surgery will be performed at a mutually convenient time.
